On Friday 8 February 2019, we will officially open the doors to a newly built and renovated hotel. The ribbon will finally be cut for the new building, which is a long-standing dream come true for both the board and our employees. The whole weekend is a celebration - and Saturday in particular will be a big day, as we've invited the whole of Aalborg to drop by for an Open House and celebrate that this 113-year-old Aalborg hotel is now entering a new era.
The opening programme:
Friday 8 February: Official inauguration 14.00-17.00 (closed event)
Saturday 9 February: Open House for everyone who is interested, 13.00-16.00 (see invitation here)
Sunday 10 February: Church brunch for all congregations in Aalborg at 11.30-15.00 (see invitation here)
All events include food, great atmosphere and guided tours of the hotel
- spiced with great stories.
Official opening on Friday 8 February
One and a half years of construction and renovation are now over, and KOMPAS Hotel Aalborg will finally hold its official opening ceremony on Friday 8 February from 14:00-17:00, where partners, suppliers, former managers of the seamen's home and close friends of the hotel are invited to a grand opening party. The chairman of the Domestic Seamen's Mission, Hans Peter Kristensen, will cut the ribbon, and the chairman of the board, Carsten Wengel, and hotel director Bo Kikkenborg will speak. Afterwards, there will be guided tours of the hotel, light refreshments in the hotel's new reception and lounge, while the pianist plays in the background.
The hotel's management can't wait to show off the new, elegant setting to guests:
- It probably hasn't escaped many people's notice that we've been building an extension here in Østerbro for the past two years. But the dream of a major expansion is actually more than 50 years old, so it's huge that we're finally at the official inauguration on Friday. It's a very significant milestone, says hotel director Bo Kikkenborg.
A brand new hotel is ready
The new hotel wing adds an additional 55 state-of-the-art rooms to the existing 55 rooms. There will also be a large suite on the top floor, large handicap accessible hotel rooms, new meeting and conference facilities, a large reception and lounge area, underground car park and a new entrance to the House of Music. In addition, the existing building has been given an extensive facade lift and new outdoor facilities have been built. Last but not least, the hotel has now changed its name to Kompas Hotel Aalborg and has a new logo and visual design.
- When we call ourselves "the new Kompas Hotel Aalborg", it really fits. We are taking a quantum leap in terms of style, elegance and modern facilities, and we can't wait to show it off to all of Aalborg, says Bo Kikkenborg.
Open House Saturday 9 February
And he literally means it: The day after the official inauguration, Saturday 9 February, Kompas Hotel Aalborg will host an Open House from 13:00-16:00 for anyone who has the time and inclination to drop by and see the new, modern facilities. There will also be refreshments and guided tours of the hotel.
- We are a 113-year-old Aalborg hotel and almost a permanent institution in the city. That's why we don't want to let it go quietly that we've finished building. So we hope that many people will come to the Open House on Saturday and see the new hotel. I'm sure people will be amazed at how beautiful it has become, says Bo Kikkenborg.
Church brunch on Sunday 10 February
Kompas Hotel Aalborg is founded on Christian values and has a strong connection to the churches in the city. Therefore, the grand opening weekend ends with all churches in the city being invited to a "church brunch" on Sunday 10 February from 11:30-15:00.
