About KOMPAS Hotel

KOMPAS Hotel Aalborg is one of the city’s oldest and most popular hotels. The hotel was originally founded as a seamen’s home in 1905, and for more than 100 years, it has been a familiar landmark for the citizens of Aalborg and foreign guests alike.

With just five minutes’ walk to downtown, five minutes’ drive to Motorway E45 and easy parking facilities right outside the main entrance, the location could not be better – whether you are here on business or holiday. With several of the city’s greatest culture centres, such as Musikkens Hus, Nordkraft and the newly renovated waterfront as nearest neighbours, KOMPAS Hotel is situated in the heart of cultural Aalborg.

New Name and New Times

In 2018, KOMPAS Hotel embarked on a significant expansion of the hotel – doubling the number of hotel rooms and conference facilities. The façade of the original hotel building from 1956, which has been found worthy of preservation, has also had a facelift; there is a new entrance onto Nyhavnsgade, and on the southside, we now have a large, covered terrace. Along with the new look, the hotel also changed its name to KOMPAS Hotel Aalborg to indicate that the we are facing new, exciting times.

Parking

We have 32 outdoor parking spaces as well as basement parking with 10 regular spaces and 1 disabled parking space.

Standard outdoor parking is 13 DKK per hour which we recommend for shortterm parking. Overnight guests are offered outdoor parking at 65 DKK per day, while a parking space in the hotel basement parking is 100 DKK per day. You register and pay for overnight parking in our reception upon arrival.

Next to the hotel parking lot is also a public car park that charges a fee between 8.00 am and 7 pm.

Feel the Presence of History

KOMPAS Hotel was originally founded as Aalborg Seamen’s Home back in 1905 and for many years, it served as a regular haunt for seamen who docked in the port of Aalborg and needed a relaxing, Christian place to stay. However, when Aalborg Shipyard, who had been the main supplier of visiting seamen in town, closed in 1988, the hotel changed strategy.

Deep Roots in Aalborg

The story of KOMPAS Hotel starts all the way back in 1905 when Aalborg Seamen’s Home was established in Slotsgade, Aalborg. Its purpose was to offer a Christian home to visiting seamen and fishermen – a place where they could socialise, read the newspaper and write letters to their families instead of drinking up all their money at the nearest pub.

Over time, the facilities in Slotsgade grew too small, and in 1926, a newly built seamen’s home was opened at Teglgårds Havn where Nordkraft is today. However, already by 1956, the hotel had to move again because Nordkraft was expanding their facilities. The hotel was assigned the neighbouring lot on Østerbro 27. On this address, they built the most modern hotel in Aalborg at the time with running water in each room, and communal showers and toilets in the hallway.

After the closing of Aalborg Shipyard in 1988, the number of visiting seamen decreased dramatically. Consequently, in the 1990s, the hotel was upgraded to a business, tourist and family hotel as a natural next step. The hotel was modernised and transformed to the hotel we know today. Now, it welcomes holiday guests, artists and business people alike.

The values and everyday service of the hotel are still based Christian values, and the hotel is also still a seamen’s home in the sense that all profits go directly to charities supporting seamen and the maritime sector.

Over the years, plans to expand the hotel were proposed on several occasions in the 1970s and again in the 1990s. For various reasons, these proposals were never carried out. Today, however, the hotel has been thoroughly renovated and now includes a brand new wing as well. This has allowed us to double our number of guest rooms and facilities. With the new image came a new name, and Hotel Aalborg will now be known as KOMPAS Hotel Aalborg.

Standard Terms and Conditions at KOMPAS Hotel Aalborg

The standard terms and conditions apply unless otherwise has been agreed.

Check-In and Check-Out

Your hotel room is available from 2 pm on the day of arrival, until 11 am on the day of departure. Late check-out can be arranged and will incur a fee of 100 DKK per hour or part thereof, for a maximum of two hours. Please contact reception should you wish to arrange a late check-out.

Changes/cancellation

To change or cancel a booking please call or email: info@kompashotel.dk.

A booking may be cancelled free of charge before 2 pm the day prior to arrival. Cancellations made after this time will incur full payment for the first night’s accommodation.

Standard Terms and Conditions for Conferences/Meetings/Parties:

Meals:
You must notify us of any special dietary requirements no later than 10 days prior to arrival.

List of participants:
Please supply us with a list of participants, including any room sharing details, no later than 10 days prior to arrival.

Cancellation:

Must be done via e-mail:

60 days prior to arrival – free of charge.
59-30 days prior to arrival – will be charged at 50 %.
29-10 days prior to arrival – will be charged at 75 %.
Less than 10 days prior to arrival – a full charge of 100 % will apply.

Even with timely cancellation, the hotel reserves the right to demand payment of any services that cannot be cancelled, e.g. deposits to external suppliers of music, equipment hire or the like. In the event, the hotel will provide the invoice in question.

Any reduction in the number of participants must be notified via e-mail:
10 days prior to arrival – no fee will be incurred if the reduction is less than 10 %.
If the reduction is more than 10 %, it will incur a fee of 65 %.
Less than 10 days prior to arrival, any reduction in numbers will incur a charge of 100 %.

Payment

Payment must be settled upon arrival. We accept cash or credit card.

Smoking

All rooms at KOMPAS Hotel are non-smoking, however, we offer nice, covered, outdoor smoking areas which you are welcome to use at any time. Failure to comply with our indoor non-smoking policy will result in a minimum 1,000 DKK cleaning fee charged to your room.

Damages

Guests will be liable for any damage caused to hotel property.

Lost Property

Lost property will be kept on the premises for up to 30 days. Please contact reception if you have forgotten or misplaced any personal items during your stay.
